A Long-Overdue Update

Hey there folks!  Old Rogue is still alive and kicking. It’s a little too on the nose to say that I haven’t updated since the previous “Redoing the Kickstarter” post, but frankly that’s where I’ve been until recently.  February saw another awesome CaptainCon, where lots of you fine folk turned out to see me and ask me how business is, how I am, and even to buy some of the Warmachine models I had for sale at my booth.  I’m there every year in Warwick, RI, so feel free to stop by!

The Forgeprints Kickstarter is now completed. I am currently working for a corporate client on seven hundred ten-inch-tall model miniatures, and am nearly done with that work.  I do intend to work on Galladoria Games’ Kickstarter this summer, in whatever capacity they’ll have me.  Otherwise, I know a few of you still have armies at my place, and at the end of April I intend to have satisfied my corporate client’s wishes and get right into them.  A Warhammer 40k Centurion army, a Gatormen army for Hordes, and a Slannesh army for Age of Sigmar are all lurking in the corners of my studio, daring me to stray from my corporate path.  And yet, I must keep my nose to the grindstone a while longer!  Thank you all for your patience.

Here’s a little bit of what I’ve been working on in my (haha) spare time.  I work twelve hours a day minimum for you guys, six or seven days a week.  It gives me so much pleasure to get you all a product with which you’re happy.  Please feel free to drop me a line anytime, even if it’s just to say hello.  I’m still the luckiest man in the world to have such splendid clients.

Happy painting,

Adam

Kickstarter Update

Good morning!  For those of you checking in on the Kickstarter this morning, you’ll have a message from Kevin (who owns and operates ForgePrints) in your inbox.  I don’t want to reiterate what he’s said in too much detail here, but essentially the following has occurred:

So far Old Rogue has painted – roughly, according to my estimates – about six or seven thousand tiles and accessories for this Kickstarter.  A good many of these were floor tiles.  They took spraypaint fine, and took paint fine, and once they were done I boxed them up and brought them down to Kevin.  Unfortunately it turns out that the mold release agent was used in too high a quantity and, over time, chemically bonded with the primer.  This resulted in some flaking paint, especially on the adobe floor tiles.  Naturally this sets us back a bit, both financially and with release time.

Fortunately, once the tiles are scrubbed a bit in warm water, and primer reapplied, they take paint fine.  All the mold release agent has been removed by the initial priming, and it doesn’t rub off unless you really, really work at it – say, with a rotary grinder! So we don’t have to recreate the thousands of tiles I already put paint on, which is good news for everyone, especially Kevin, as this resin is top quality stuff and not cheap!

All this means for Old Rogue is that I work a lot longer hours for the foreseeable future, and order a lot of paint.  It’s a setback, but there are a few things I’d like you to keep in mind if you would.

Firstly, Old Rogue is absolutely still taking commissions and trying to turn them around in a reasonable time frame.  I’ve done loads of work for people since CaptainCon and don’t see any amount of tiles changing that.  So many of you have come back for additional work over the years and I appreciate that so much.  The tile refurbishing will all be done in my own time and shouldn’t actually take all that long – I’m getting really good at painting tiles.

Secondly, I want to reaffirm that I have always been committed to pushing out the best quality for your money.  There were a number of ways whereby we could have tried to “seal the paint in” with a varnish or similar product; but instead we’re getting you guys the best painted tiles that we can. I’m never going to back away or reduce my commitment to that.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to email me.  I always love talking with you good folks.  And now it’s back to the painting mines for me 🙂  Have a lovely commission for some post-apocalyptic roleplayers to finish up today.

Happy Painting – and thank you all for your understanding and patience.

Just Another Evening…

…in Old Rogue land.  How’s everyone’s painting going?

Fear not Kickstarter fans!  I work on other projects in the evening, so don’t be worried that you don’t see tiles here. 🙂  Just gave a mountain of stuff to Kevin at Forge Prints today for sorting, but still so much more to do!

Happy Painting,

Adam

Or rather, some work that came out of CaptainCon.  Hope you enjoy – more coming soon!

If you’d like to have some work done, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly at oldroguepainting@gmail.com. I’d love to make your painting dreams a reality!

Adventurescapes is Live!

We’re live! If you like this stuff and know people who also might like this stuff, please let them know!

(Yes, I painted all of this and will be painting anything you might want to pick up that’s under the ‘hand painted’ category!)

Some Prototyping…

Done with the assistance of the splendid Forge Prints folks – thought you might like to see a bit of a preview (and see how the sausage gets made, so to speak)

(And yes, those ARE chocolate-covered espresso beans – my secret weapon when I’m up against the clock!)

Happy painting!

Genestealer Cult and Mimic Update

Almost all the mimics are done now – less than 100 to go – so naturally I celebrated by finishing up a personal project of mine. These guys are the Genestealer Cult. An alien infected a ton of them (that’s the big purple/blue one) and they all mutate and follow the alien with complete loyalty until everyone rises up and overthrows the planetary government. It’s an extreme process dictated mostly by prophecy and the positions of the stars – so I like to think these guys are constantly getting the signs and prophecy wrong, and are a little group of oddballs rising up pretty much every six months – same vehicle, weapons, etc. Somehow they mostly survive to lick their wounds and await the “true” signal, over and over!

Anyhow, thought you all might like to see. More to come shortly if you like Dwarven Forge – stay tuned!

Happy April!

Almost done with it of course – I’ve been busy painting Mimics!  The Kickstarter was a success and I’ll be sending out a few thousand of these lovelies in the coming weeks. Meanwhile (since I know you’re really here for the pictures) here’s some stuff I’ve been working on.  Enjoy!

Happy Painting,

Adam

Still Chugging Along

I’ve got about six hundred mimics painted now – and many more in middling stages of development. Rather than spoil a lovely photograph of all the mimics done at once, however, I’m going to show off a bit of what just got listed on Ebay tonight. Proof that the Painting Engine is still chugging along over here.

Hope you’re well!

Happy Painting,
